medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Hello Meg,
You can do some researches with Iconclass database (http://www.iconclass.org/) using the both entries, Blaise and Blasius. You will find there some interesting representations of Blaise with animals. There are many occurrences of Blaise on the Mandragore database also (http://mandragore.bnf.fr/html/accueil.html) which indexes a couple of images where animals appear (you have to use Recherche plein texte to find quickly the 66 images related to Blaise).
As for the spelling Blasius/ Basilius, you can try with expressions like b*asi*+sebast* (but this will give results about Sebastien also). Paul Aebischer, Les versions norroises du "Voyage de Charlemagne en Orient", p. 103-104, treats of the confusion Blasius - Basilius. You can find several examples of this kind with the dMGH selecting only the Kritischer Apparat.
Best wishes,
Eduard
