Hi, sarah,
I don't know if this is a relevant as it seems you're looking for a hardware
solution, but I saw a fantastic art installation at Digital Shoreditch a few
weeks ago, made by Full Circle Interactive which is available as an App for
iPhone, available on iTunes, called In Limbo which could be a software
solution for your problem!
It's actually film experiment with multiple stories within a 360 degree
movie, amazing stuff.
Just thought it worth sharing....!
