Hello all,
It's my first time posting here, so if I'm doing anything wrong, apologies and please let me know!
For my MA in Librarianship dissertation, I'm looking at the current status and role of comic in public libraries. The aim of the research is to assess the current standing and role of comic books in the public library, in order to provide some insight into their usage and value. This will be done through a variety of objectives, including,
• Examining existing comics collections in public libraries- if and how these are being developed
• Investigating whether any special collections or projects are being undertaken
• The perceptions and attitudes of library professionals towards comic books and their place in the library
• The way in which comic books and collections are managed in relation to lending stock at large- looking at policies, classification
I'd be really grateful if, if you're interested in the area, or have done/are doing any work with comics, you could get in touch. So I'm looking at things like comic related events, large collections, collaborating with other organisations, perceptions, if there are any extensive or large comic collections in public libraries in the UK etc.
The experience doesn't necessarily have to be a positive one- for example, perhaps you have tried to set up a comic collection, but faced some barriers and were unable to do so, or found for some reason there was no audience for the collection you'd curated.
I am talking to publishers, comic academics, retailers etc as well, but for obvious reasons want to get in touch with library professionals. Thank you!
