Yesterday with English GCSE the busy day I had expected, but could have done without the girl throwing up. But to top it today have a boy who came in to sit his Physics As level exam but was attacked by a dog. He is currently under supervision in A&E because he wants to sit the exam. Will have to wait and see whether the A&E department lets him.
July cannot come soon enough.

We are about a mile from the Olympic Park (you can see the Stadium and the Orbit tower from our main exams room). Had a student last year complain that the noise of helicopters over the Olympic Stadium was disturbing him. He said we should do something about them!!

So glad it's not just our lot. They complain about anything and everything, from having to pay for the course, the teachers, the course content, the classrooms they are in, the evenings they are timetabled to come in...everything.
I had the misfortune to see a counsellor a couple of years ago after my mum died and that convinced me that they are all a complete and utter waste of space and I am even more critical and cynical about counselling so none of the Counselling students like me much as I keep telling them it's all a load of rubbish and all counsellors do is repeat back to you what you've said to them and make a mint out of doing so they need to get a proper job!!!
The one who had the screaming ab dabs about his exam the other week.....can you really see him coping with a client telling him about their issues/problems/crisis. He'd run out of the room screaming and crying!!!

That's lovely! One of our invigilators is reading your e-mail at the moment - he had a complaint from a counselling candidate as his breathing was too loud (level 4 of course).
The reason for the loud breathing? The candidate had gone to the wrong room and flatly refused to move so he had to run up three flights of stairs to the room she was in.
We had a party when her result of 'not proficient' came in. Until we realised that meant she would have to sit again.......
He was also asked to clean her desk as it was too dusty for her....
They do provide a lovely wide range of complaints, issues and surprises.
Lucky I'm a slaphead already or I would have pulled my hair out.

Not a single one that I haven't wanted to strangle with my bare hands. No-one wants to invigilate their exams so I and the Exams Administrator who manages the Counselling courses have to do it. Every year I say NO MORE I'll end up in prison if I have to deal with them again and still we have to keep doing it.
They are the most obnoxious, needy, psychologically deranged, self-obsessed creatures who need to have some sort of therapy themselves.
The room's the wrong shape, the lights are too bright, the desk isn't painted pink and white spots, it's a Tuesday, the DVD is too loud, the DVD is too quiet, it's a Wednesday, there are people walking about in the grounds talking which is giving them "issues", the paper is too hard, it's a Thursday, they are tired, someone walked past the exam room and scared them, there are too many questions, there isn't enough room on the question paper to write a ******!!!!**** essay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every exam I say over and over again DO NOT WRITE SHIT LOADS OF CRAP......DO BULLET POINTS....... Do you understand ....yes we do. Then you see them writing their life story down the sides of the question paper on additional paper.......AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH
We had one L4 fool last week who was supposed to bring in his own laptop with some voice activated software on it so he could talk/type his exam....he forgot it and the drama that ensued. Tears, stamping feet, wailing, holding his head, bawling.....and he was 54 years old for christs sake.

We have had students with laptops in the back of our Sports Hall, with the rest of the candidates in the same room.
This did lead to one complaint by the laptopper, until we pointed out his requirement was a PC, not a separate room.
The other candidates were completely untroubled by this arrangement.
Their tutor, on the other hand, had a blue fit with his leg in the air....
Kate: Interested that you also have Counselling exams. Do you have any Counselling students you don't want to punch in the face?

Dear Colleagues,
I am in need of some guidance as I have just had very unhappy tutor who has complained that we have a cohort of 9 of which 4 of the learners have been placed at the back of the room as they have laptops due to a room shortage. However, the tutor has requested that I put in a special consideration as her learners have not had been prepared for this situation in that they have learners with word processors sitting at the back of the room. This was the best practice I could use due to a shortage of rooms.
Two questions: what would you do? Do you ever have laptops in with a cohort that do not use laptops?
Your advice and guidance would be greatly appreciated.
