UNESCO side event at the 7th World Environmental Education Congress

The Future We Want, outcome document of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development
20-22 June 2012, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Rio+20)
Building on the outcomes of the Rio+20 conference, this side event, organized by UNESCO
in cooperation with UNEP and UNICEF, will present and discuss the current plans for the
future of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) after the end of the UN Decade of
ESD (DESD), for which UNESCO is the lead agency. It will also discuss the role of the
stakeholders involved in the World Environmental Education Congress in the implementation
of a future ESD programme framework. The side event will also be an opportunity to address
the preparations for the UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable
Development (November 2014, Aichi-Nagoya, Japan).
The format will be a panel debate, followed by a question-and-answer session.
