Hi Elaine
You ask if IMI is better accepted in the motor vehicle trade than C&G, I would say the answer is yes, they are not only an awarding body but also the sector skills council for the industry, setting the requirements for apprenticeships and they run the ATA accreditation process.
We've used IMI for years and whilst I agree the web site is a bit of a pain, in that everything has to be individually entered, we have never had any problems with them. Exam wise, you don't have anything to book, once students are registered they have automatic access to exams when they are ready and the MV team run these as and when required.
Yes the main contact has to be the MV IMI IV but this hasn't caused us any problems, we have a very good working relationship with our IV and IMI was perfectly happy to deal with me during out merger last summer and arrangements for transfer of students to just the one centre number was effected quickly and without any problems.
Hope this helps
