medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Closer inspection of the order's website reveals that the habit has underwent a few changes over the centuries:
http://newsite.augustiniancanons.org/klosterneuburg-2/habit/
The cassock used to be completely white until the 18th century. The Dominican habit is all white, too, but it's worn with a brown belt and a rosary, white scapular, white hood, black robe, so quite different in "style."

Hi, Meg--
I thought the Austin canons (black canons) dressed entirely in black. The habit you describe sounds Dominican to me, but that may just be my ignorance.
best regards,
Sherry
