*STUDY DAYS:“THE MODERNIZATION OF THE MUSICAL LIFE IN THE SPAIN OF ISABEL
II: BEYOND MARTÍN SÁNCHEZ ALLÚ (1823-1858)”*
*MADRID, MARCH 7t h- 8th 2014 *
These study days are organized by the *Conservatorio Profesional de Música
“Arturo Soria”*, in collaboration with the *Museo Nacional del
Romanticismo*(National Museum of Romanticism), and will take place in
Madrid, at the
Auditorium of the Museo Nacional del Romanticismo, on March 7th and 8th,
2014.
The biographical trajectory of the composer *Martín Sánchez
Allú*(1823-1858) and his artistic production are placed at a
historical
crossroad. Starting from his education in the ecclesiastical environment of
Salamanca and leading to the “salons” and theatres of Madrid during the
reign of the Queen Isabel II, the path of his life as well as his artistic
creation strongly reflect the birth of a new historical period.
Departing from the figure of the composer, these study days aim to present
the most recent research focused on his life and work, to reflect on the
nature of the institutional, intellectual and musical changes that operated
during Isabel II’s reign (1830-1868), as well as to open new perspectives
in the study of the music in Spain during that period.
The organizers encourage to present proposals which fit into the following *
areas*, within the historical and geographical frame of Spain during the
time period of Isabel II:
- Musical modernization as a historical phenomenon.
- Music spaces and institutions.
- Repertoires, performing practices and listening practices.
- Local identity and cosmopolitism in the musical genres.
- Editorial industry and musical press.
- The birth of the musical historiography: concepts, models and
discourses
Proposals focused on Martín Sánchez Allú’s life and work will have
preference.
The keynote speaker will be Prof. *Juan José Carreras* (University of
Zaragoza). Papers selected at the conference will be published in a
miscellaneous volume.
