Dear All,
the deadline for abstract submission is June 15th
The next meeting of the Italian Federation of Earth Sciences (FIST) will
be held in Pisa, Italy from September 16th to the 18th.
We would like to draw your attention on the following session:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"TECTONOPHYSICS - D2 Low-angle normal faults: field and laboratory
analysis, seismicity, mechanics and foot-wall exhumation"
Over the last 30 years geologists and geophysicists have reported
findings of many examples of crust-penetrating normal faults with dips
less than 30°. Despite the huge amount of crustal extension and
foot-wall exhumation accommodated by these structures, the possibility
that either microseismicity and/or moderate-to-large earthquakes can
nucleate on low-angle normal faults is widely debated. This session aims
at bringing together contributions from a variety of approaches spanning
from surface and subsurface geological reconstructions,
thermochronological and paleomagnetic studies, laboratory data,
seismological and GPS evidences, in order to discuss the role of these
faults in terms of their tectonic evolution and earthquake potential.
