Dear Colleagues
(sorry for multiple posting)
We want to announce the definitive deadlines and milestones for the
Geological Society Special Publication; “Fifty years of paleomagnetism in
fold-and-thrust belts”
Paleomagnetism has been increasingly used as a fundamental tool to assess
the tectonic evolution of deformed areas all over the world because of its
great and exclusive potential in quantifying vertical axis-rotations in an
absolute way. In the last 50 years paleomagnetic data have been extensively
applied to tackle tectonic problems at different scales in several orogenic
systems. In particular, paleomagnetism has been increasingly used as key
quantitative information for unravelling tectonic deformation in fold and
thrust belts (FAT) and for defining the timing of the bending by its
ability to determine the distribution and magnitude of vertical axis
rotations. Together with classic structural geology analysis, reliable
paleomagnetic vectors allow a spatial and temporal understanding of fold
and thrust belts, particularly in complex structures. Recent applications
of paleomagnetism in FAT belts include integration of anisotropy of
magnetic susceptibility (AMS) analysis, structural data, fission tracks,
and GPS data. Besides, some numerical applications allow “squeezing”
paleomagnetic vectors to be used in 2D and 3D restoration tools, and
reconstruction of inverted basins.
Within this frame we have organized the volume in three blocks:
1) An introductory part dealing with methodological issues (errors,
resolution, reliability, etc.)
2) A second section with comprehensive synthesis/overviews of FAT belts
3) A third section with “one-step-further” applications (numerical
restoration, remagnetizations as snapshots of deformation, integrated
analysis with AMS, structural marker, fission tracks, etc.)
We have already captured about 15 contributions; with this e-mail we would
like to encourage you to submit your work into this volume.
Expression of interest should be sent by e-mail (see below) before June
7th (Friday next week) sending one-page abstract including the complete
list of authors and affiliations.
Paper submission is scheduled for 28th September (Friday).
Review process is expected to last about 4 month before final acceptance
Look forward hearing from you soon,
Sincerely
