Dear list,
I just want to take this opportunity to push for the book
"Moralizing Technology -- Understanding and Designing the Morality of
Things" by Peter-Paul Verbeek (2011).
This is, in my view, one of the best contemporary books in the field of
philosophy of technology. Verbeek is (already) famous for his analysis of
things as ethical objects. But the reason to post on this list is that
Verbeek spends a lot of time in the book examining design of morality which
I know is of interest to many list members. With chapters such as "A
nonhumanist ethics of technology", "Do artifacts have morality", and
"Morality in design", Verbeek develops a way of thinking that makes it
possible to relate the morality of things and design.
As a reader of Verbeek I would be interested in seeing other readers
reflections on the approach that he develops.
