Dear Tim,
Thanks for the comments. I'm doing a more "conventional" PhD in Systems
Design Engineering. However, I'm interested in what would the design
community "define" as an original contribution.I believe in this mailing
list there are many researchers from various backgrounds starting from
social sciences ranging to art and architecture not to mention engineering
and industrial design (sorry to have left out others). As a community we
recognize that "creativity" is a cornerstone of design. But how to
recognize a creative work in terms of adding to the knowledge of the field
of design research is the question. Which brings me back to the age old
question - what constitutes design knowledge?
For the second question, Ken did point out to the different disciplinary
conventions. I think that may be the source of the comments of my committee
member.
Thanks,
VK
