Hi Philipp
As you say Cochrane have always prospectively published review protocols, and PROSPERO was set up to give the opportunity of the same transparency to non-Cochrane reviews. I should point out that our processes differ significantly. While Cochrane have a rigorous editorial process, we do not peer review submissions to PROSPERO, but simply check the inclusion criteria are met and proof read the information provided. Which is why we can offer registration free of charge and turn round submissions within five working days.
We have been working with Cochrane for some time to set up an automatic upload of new protocol data from the Cochrane Library to avoid as far as possible adding to the workload of Cochrane reviewers and editors. We will be circulating information about how the upload will work to all the review groups as soon as we have the final few technicalities ironed out.
Best wishes
Alison
