The following are some of the established methods for identifying gaps
in the research evidence:
Cochrane Collaboration checklist, Centre for Reviews and Dissemination
guidance checklist, Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews’
(AMSTAR), ‘Systematic Review Critical Appraisal Skills Programme
Sheet’ (CASP) for assessment of quality of systematic review, cohort
and case control studies.
Others for Randomised Controlled Trials include: 5 point Oxford
Quality Rating Scale (Jadad et al., 1996), Consolidated Standards of
Reporting Trials (CONSORT Statement), quality improvements in RCTs
(Uman, Chambers, McGrath & Kisely, 2010)
For assessment of quality of reporting for meta-analysis of
observational studies, ‘Strengthening the Reporting of Observational
Studies in Epidemiology’ (STROBE), PRISMA, and ‘Meta-analysis of
Observational Studies in Epidemiology’ (MOOSE) can be used.
It is all over the internet when you search for them.
