SENIOR LECTURER IN MEDICAL STATISTICS

We are looking for a highly motivated statistician with leadership skills or
potential to join the expanding UKCRC-registered Pragmatic Clinical Trials
Unit (PCTU), located in the Centre for Primary Care and Public Health and
linked with the Centre for Psychiatry. The PCTU supports high quality
clinical trials and pilot studies that fit with the research strategies of
these two Centres and also carries out methodological work related to
trials. You will be joining a team of nine statisticians currently working
within the PCTU on a variety of pragmatic trials and observational studies,
many involving complex interventions.

This purpose of this post is to contribute to the work of the Pragmatic
Clinical Trials Unit in leading, supporting and encouraging high quality
research. The post will involve taking responsibility for all statistical
aspects of major trials and other studies, contributing to design and
oversight of analysis, including liaising with other chief investigators and
other researchers within and outside the Centre for Primary Care and Public
Health as required. You would also be expected to undertake a small amount
of advisory work under the auspices of the Research Design Service London as
required and do some teaching.

The post requires an ability to take responsibility for the statistical
aspects of research projects, liaise with staff at all levels, undertake
specific leadership roles related to the running and development of the
unit, line manage junior staff and make significant contributions to the
field of pragmatic clinical trials both nationally and internationally. It
is essential that the post-holder can work independently and supervise,
support and develop junior staff. A desire to contribute to the strategic
development of the unit is essential. You will possess a higher degree in
statistics or equivalent, have experience of contributing to collaborative
grant applications including for clinical trials, of methodological research
preferably in the area of clinical trials, and of a wide range of
statistical techniques. A track record in statistical methodological
research in the field of pragmatic trials would be an advantage. You will
have a strong publication record, and be able to teach at all levels and
supervise a PhD student.
