EPSRC/RSS GRADUATE TRAINING PROGRAMME 2013
This is the second in a series of residential graduate training courses provided by the Royal Statistical Society with support from EPSRC. The courses are national and are mainly aimed at PhD students in their second and third years, though others may be able to attend, especially early career researchers.
Highly Structured Stochastic Systems
Monday 22nd July 2013 - Friday 26th July 2013
School of Mathematics & Statistics, Newcastle University
DR VANESSA DIDELEZ (Bristol University):
Title: Graphical Models for High Dimensional Data
The course will cover:
1) Undirected graphs
- Markov properties
- decomposability and collapsibility
- loglinear and Gaussian (GGMs) models
- model selection for highdimensional GGMs (G-Lasso, MAP-trees etc)
- Bayesian inference and model selection
2) Directed acyclic graphs (DAGs)
- Markov properties, Markov equivalence
- expert systems and probability propagation
- model selection for high-dimensional data (PC-algorithm and it's variations)
followed by
PROFESSOR HÅVARD RUE (Norwegian University of Science and Technology):
Title: Bayesian computation with INLA
The course will cover:
- Gaussian Markov random fields: properties and computational aspects
- Latent Gaussian models
- INLA: The Gaussian case and the non-Gaussian case
- R-INLA: the R-package, basic usage and advanced features
The course registration fee for GTP 2013 is £150. Accommodation and subsistence will be provided free for EPSRC funded students only, from Sunday-Friday. Capacity is limited, and so places on the course will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
The aim of the GTP is to provide a series of high level and specialist courses in Statistics and Applied Probability to graduate Statisticians. The 2013 GTP follows on from previous successful EPSRC/RSS programmes running from 2002-2007 and 2012's "Advanced Computational Bayesian Inference."
