Dear colleagues,
We would like to advertise the 13th 'International workshop on modelling mantle and lithosphere dynamics' and encourage you to attend! The workshop is part of a meeting series that was initiated in 1987 in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Germany, and has been followed by meetings every two years in various European countries. The 2013 workshop will be held in Hønefoss, Norway. Registration is now open at http://www.earthdynamics.org/lucky13/
We will meet to discuss numerical techniques, investigate exciting new avenues, foster collaboration, and introduce students to the interesting challenges of mantle and lithosphere modelling. As the workshop focusses on posters and discussions, we have only a limited number of invited lectures. We are pleased to present the confirmed 2013 speakers:
ASPECT - Challenges and solutions: Thomas Geenen (University of Utrecht, the Netherlands)
Dynamical effects of material properties and porosity: Boris Ivanov (Institute for Dynamics of Geospheres, Russia)
Plume dynamics: Eh Tan (Academia Sinica, Taiwan)
Slabs’ fate: Ellen Syracuse (Wisconsin University, USA)
Mantle structure – Temperature or other bulk properties: Karin Sigloch (University of Munchen, Germany)
Dynamic topography to approximate viscoelastic topographies, with applications on Mars and Venus: Caroline Dumoulin (University of Nantes, France)
On dynamically evolving planets: Slava Solomatov (Washington University, USA)
Adding complexity – Magnetohydrodynamics: Mats Carlsson (University of Oslo, Norway)
Magnetic field and mantel conditions: Chris Davies (University of Leeds, UK)
Computational porous media: Hans Muhlhaus (University of Queensland, Australia)
Plasticity and strain localisation in the crust and lithophere: Laetitia Le Pourhiet (UPMC, France)
The 2013 workshop is made possible through the generous support of the Norwegian Research Council, the Thematic meeting series of the European Geosciences Union, the European Research Council, the Centre for Earth Evolution and Dynamics of the University of Oslo, and the International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth's Interior.
With best wishes and looking forward to your registrations!
the organising committee (Trond, Stephanie, Susanne, Pavel, Abigail, and Marcin)
