Also, all good cider is said to require a few rats to nourish the yeast.
The lack of rat bones in cider proves that years is hungry...

A friend of mine in the jam making world says that they never get
complaints of slugs in the jam...snails yes because the shell survives
the jam making process, but slugs leave no trace.

This is one reason why I make marmalade each year.

I avoid blackcurrant jam - as a student, I had to shovel up 4 tons of
blackcurrants for a famous jam manufacturer which had spilled all over
floor of reezer warehouse!

Pretty sure you have a fair amount of rodent hairs in a number of food
stuffs, hot dogs are one that spring to mind.

I did food science as a dual honours with biochemistry and this included
secondments to some food manufacturers. There is a long list of foods I
avoid now!

less worried about horse than "other" dna. For a clue to what "other"
might refer, the FDA's checklist below, giving acceptable contamination
levels may put you off your apple butter for ever. I presume the FSA has
a similar one..

One positive aspect of the latest scandal (for the lipidologists).

Horsemeat is apparently lower in cholesterol than beef.
