I think Fadil's explanation is correct. A respiratory alkalosis. One of these patients had gases and the results;
pH 7.6
pCO2 2.9
pO2 9.1
HCO3- (plasma) 19
PO4 0.12
I Incidentally foud that he had a similar episode in Dec. At that time his results were;
HCO3- 21 mmol/l
In Phos <0.1
