I got censored on howdesign.com a few weeks back (although they later denied having deleted my post) when they ran a piece on "Sharp Suits." I pointed out that dismissing people as "suits" and generally mocking clients are part of the reason that clients often dismiss designers as snotty art school graduates who shouldn't be trusted. Someone replied "Learn to laugh, old man" and my "I do, little boy. At you." disappeared from the site.
Many of these posters of stupid things that their clients said strike me as reasonable statements that may have been too accurate for the designers' comfort and many of the others strike me as probably good attempts at talking about design by people who don't have a vocabulary to talk about design.
I wish more people stated intent as clearly as "The flyer should feel like a warm handshake" or "Can we dial down the chill factor and then dial up the fun factor by about 25%." I can only guess whether the cowboy was too camp or the dog was off brand but I have no reason to think that they were not.
