Hi Tim,
indead very intersting paper and it helps me to understand that I run into a similar issue.
Theory testing is quite complex as I have realized depending on the theory, since the theorist is challenged by setting up a test, which is approriate to the nature of the theory. (..several authors (Friedman and others) have written about the nature of design theory, but there is written not very much about testing)
In my case I am looking to test a theory which models, how we advance our understanding and concept of design. The testing therefore isn't as easy, since the intention of testing, the test setting, already changes the nature of the process I try to look at.
I am running into a wicked testing problem so to say.
