medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Herewith a link to an earlier (2010) 'Saints of the day' for 8. December (including The Immaculate Conception of the BVM, _aliter_ The Conception of the BVM or Conception of the Theotokos; St. Macharius of Alexandria; pope St. Eutychian; St. Eucharius of Trier; St. Patapius of Thebes; St. Romaric; St. Theobald of Marly):
Further to Eutychian:
In that earlier post's notice of this saint, the link to a view of the visually very similar sepulchral inscription of pope St. Fabian no longer functions. Use this instead:

In the same notice, the fourth link to 'Other exterior views' of the cathedral of Sarzana no longer functions. Use this instead (showing part of one of the surviving medieval transepts):

Further to Eucharius of Trier:
In that earlier post's notice of this saint, the link to the page with a view of Eucharius as depicted on Trier's earliest known city seal no longer functions. Use this instead:

Further to Patapius of Thebes:
A revised set of links to visuals for this saint:
a) Patapius of Thebes as depicted in the late tenth- or very early eleventh-century so-called Menologion of Basil II (Città del Vaticano, BAV, cod. Vat. gr. 1613, fol. 232):

b) Patapius of Thebes as depicted (as a bishop!) in the earlier fourteenth-century frescoes (betw. ca. 1312 and 1321/22) in the nave of the monastery church of the Theotokos at Gračanica in, depending on one's view of the matter, either Serbia's province of Kosovo and Metohija or the Republic of Kosovo:

c) Patapius of Thebes as depicted (again as a bishop) in the earlier fourteenth-century frescoes (betw. 1313 and 1318; conservation work in 1968) by Michael Astrapas and Eutychios in the church of St. George at Staro Nagoričane in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia:

d) Patapius of Thebes (at right; at left, St. Ambrose of Milan) as depicted in a December calendar composition in the earlier fourteenth-century frescoes (betw. 1335 and 1350) in the narthex of the church of the Holy Ascension at the Visoki Dečani monastery near Peć in, depending on one's view of the matter, either the Republic of Kosovo or Serbia's province of Kosovo and Metohija:

e) In the early twentieth century relics believed to be Patapius' were the subject of an Inventio in a cave church on Mt. Geraneia at Loutraki (Corinthia prefecture) containing a fresco portrait of him. Now said to have been brought there around the time of Constantinople's capture by the Turks in 1453, since the early 1950s they have been venerated in a women's monastery dedicated to the Theotokos -- but generally known as that of St. Patapius -- and built around the aforesaid cave. Here's a view of Patapius' portrait in the cave:

f) The much rebuilt church (now a chapel) of Agios Patapios in Veria (Veroia, Beroia) in northern Greece is variously said to be of the fifteenth or sixteenth century. Herewith a few views:

This church was built over part of the nave of a ruinous, originally late fifth- or sixth-century basilican church with a transept. Fragments of mosaic pavement from that early church are now in the Byzantine Museum in Veria. Some views of such fragments (all photographed in the archeological area adjoining the present church):

Further to Theobald of Marly:
In that earlier post's notice of this saint, for 'Vaux-en-Cernay' please read 'Vaux-de-Cernay'.
In the same notice, the link to a view of the hotel chapel in the remains of the abbey of Vaux-de-Cernay no longer functions. Use this instead:
