Dear Librarian
Shortwave radio listening in public libraries will attract more library users. This includes all ages and both sexes. As an emeritus engineer, technologist and tutor from education, I seek to introduce this on trial. It is founded on a prior and successful project in schools.
Users will benefit from hearing international languages, music, Morse code and much more. Sometimes the listener will hear something rare or unusual as well as other odd noises.
Scientific and geographic knowledge will grow. This is by operation of a radio communications receiver dependent on intriguing changes in the upper ionosphere and our Sun.
Skill and patience will develop in addition to a sense of fun. Careers have been gained from this practice. Interestingly, the Internet has had only a minor effect on the radio frequency spectrum.
Radio is a non-screen and both an audio and an aural medium. It is off-air and in real-time. Costs are similar to a laptop computer. A simple wire antenna is required and reception is via quality headphones.
Please would you very kindly help to evaluate this exciting and unique project? Further details are available and I look forward to your kind reply.
Many public bodies have shown interest. Our future depends on science!
Regards from David H E Coles.
