I don't want to use this list for self promotion but as part of everyday life I am asked to give evidence that the work I do as a designer actually works, this includes my thinking. Accordingly, our Institute makes what we do, including our thinking, quite explicit in our work. We explain why one way of thinking rather than another leads to better outcomes, and we provide before and after evidence to demonstrate this.
For those of you wedded to Simon's idea of design (embedded as it is within a reformist agenda), how can you claim to have changed an existing state of affairs into a better one, without evidence that you have made the change?
Getting evidence is never easy, and those of us who do so are all too painfully aware of the limitations of the evidence we collect, but without any evidence that our ways of thinking are productive (if that is what we believe design to be) then its just a set of beliefs, no more, no less.
