Hi Aggie,
once again, now copying to the list: the CCHMC2 templates were generated
long before spm8 was conceived, so compatibility cannot be guaranteed.
You probably could modify their headers to be identical, but I would
much rather suggest you look into the TOM toolbox (based on PMID
18424084) which is also available at
https://irc.cchmc.org/software/tom.php It is newer, compatible with spm8
(and, of course, vbm8) and generally nicer and more agreeable :)

PS: Coregistering an image to a template helps to reduce initial
realignment, but don't reslice; this is not necessary and only
introduces an additional interpolation step. The error refers to the
template images anyway, so nothing you do to your input images will mend it.
