medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Hello Al,
Unfortunately, if cathedrals put up signage for all the various aspects of their art and architecture, one would not be able to see the cathedral for the signs! Even relatively knowledgeable cathedral guides, in fact, might not be able to answer all such questions. That's one of the reasons that, unfortunately, makes the study of medieval stained glass so arcane. And that is the rationale, as well, for the Corpus Vitrearum volumes, the monographs of which include conservation diagrammes which spell out very clearly the various restorations, etc. contained in each panel of glass.
Cheers,
Jim

Can anyone report on what the cathedral signage, if there is any for
stained glass panels, says about authenticity?
Cheers,
Al Magary
