Hi David
The Reading Agency is working with the Society of Chief Librarians with support from Arts Council England’s Library Development Initiative on a shared Books on Prescription scheme for England. This is supported by health partners including the Royal Colleges of Psychiatrists, Nursing and GPs, The British Psychological Society as well as the Department of Health ( NHS Choices and the Improving Access to Psychological Therapy Programme (IAPT)). The new scheme will be rolled out from May 2013.
We are in the process of creating a core self- help book list for mild to moderate mental health problems for which there is a NICE recognised evidence base for the efficacy of book based CBT therapy. The focus in the first year will be on adults but we will be looking at developing resources for children and young people in the second year of the programme drawing together existing good practice. I know this is some way in the future but I thought you would be interested to know that a shared resource for this target group is in the pipeline.
Do get in touch if you would like any further information about the scheme
