Hi Wellington,
There are many examples of biomimetics applied in industrial design and
engineering. The best resources on biomimicry are biomimicry 3.8 (
http://biomimicry.net/) and Ask Nature (http://www.asknature.org/). Ask
Nature is a free online database containing papers from researchers across
many fields who are applying biomimetics in their work. The site also
contains some strategic (methodological) resources. Furthermore, articles
can be found through journals such as Nature or its sister journal Nature
Materials (http://www.nature.com/nmat/index.html).
The Biomimicry Guild provides a superficial outline of what their
biologists/services offer, (
http://www.biomimicryguild.com/guild_services_methods.html) but your best
bet is to use the AskNature database and biomimicry 3.8. At the very least,
a database search on sciencedirect will yield many papers on the topic from
a wide range of journals that provide insight into how others have adopted
and applied biomimetic thinking in practice.
Hope this has helped,
-Stefanie
