I may be in peril of once again dragging us off into the realm of God and cosmology but I once again notice what may be a parallel:
There is a common notion that God does the stuff that isn't explained by science. Some religious people are uncomfortable with this because, almost inevitably, expanding science means a diminishing God.
It seems that many people are happy with design or designing being defined somewhat tautologically as the stuff (or a large subset of the stuff) that designers do in their roles as designers. Machines take an expanding role in the doing of that stuff. If we define those machine actions as the non-design stuff, does that mean that design or designing is diminishing?
