Thanks very much for this, much appreciated. And thanks Jeremy, I do have quite a lot of fear getting into it at table level..so may well avoid that :-)
The interesting question is whether it's better to query in real time using the API, or bring in some kind of copy of the data which can then be manipulated and surfaced throughout Wordpress, probably by using custom post types.
The latter, although duplicating data, seems much more coherent to me. One thing I think which is often disappointing about collections online is that they're "over there, in the collections bit of the site" rather than properly woven in, and I'm keen to avoid this.
I'll keep thinking and chewing it over. Out of interest - how many of you are using both AdLib and Wordpress for your museum sites?
