Hi Elaine
It's within the section on page 10 paragraph 2.2 'Extra time up to
100%' I think the MUST apply refers to those students needing more
than 25% where the situation involving a reader and/or scribe plus up to
25% Extra Time doesn't apply.
Section 2.2.2 says 'It CAN be applied for.......' rather than MUST be
applied for. Where you've applied for 25% and Reader and/or Scribe but
the reader/scribe is not permitted in a subject (or section of a paper)
testing reading or writing then they may be granted up to 50% extra
time.
I think it's very unclear wording but we've been advised by Edexcel as
follows:
We didn't have to apply for more than 25% to cover the subject where
50% would be applicable to remove the barrier of not having a reader.
So you don't need to apply for more than 25% in addition to the
application for less than 25% plus reader/scribe.
AQA sent back an Approval stating 'This candidate meets the JCQ
criteria for Extra time up to 25% (50%)'.
Hope that helps.

Thanks, Claire. I don't see where it says this in the pink book. In
fact it clearly states than for any GCSE and GCE qualifications, an
application must be made online for candidates requiring more than 25%.
Mine is for GCSEs (English, Maths, Psychology).

Hello Elaine
I don't know if this is in relation to language exams but we had some
communication with the boards about a similar issue with Spanish AS and
they referred us to page 10 of the pink JCQ book. Although the wording
is a bit ambiguous it seems that you don't need to apply for the over
25% element as a separate access arrangement as it's given as a
default.
Hope that helps.

Hi All
I've had a number of applications rejected for candidates who should be
entitled to more than 25% ET where they are sitting a component where
they are not allowed the use of their normal reader and/or scribe.
Is there a trick to making an application where the candidate normally
has 25% ET with reader and/or scribe, but then needs more than 25% where
they are not allowed anything else depending on the exam.
Do you make the application in one go, ticking both the 'up to 25% ET'
box as well as the 'more than 25% ET' box?
thanks
