*Sigh* Ah the broken glasses of nostalgia! Just like in analog, what you
get out of digital depends on what you put in. If you make impedance and
gain errors in analogue, you get lousy sound. If you have connection or
sampling problems with digital, you get lousy sound.
Anyway, are you using a good USB mic? That's your best bet. Audiotechnica
make some great-for-the-price USB mics and you can often find them on sale
on Amazon US, though I don't know what shipping to the antipode would cost.
