Dear all,
Also in connection to earlier and ongoing discussions, I started wondering when the following have first been used:
1) artistic research;
2) research by design (in design);
3) research by design (in architecture).
Concerning the first, Henk Borgdorff has pointed me to a Unesco document of 1978 (http://unesdoc.unesco.org/images/0011/001140/114032e.pdf#page=192). In view of the fact this is a policy document, I expect that the use of 'artistic research' is going back to earlier documents. Any references?
Concerning 2) and 3) (if there is any difference), we all know the Frayling paper mentioning research into/through/for art and design. But what about 'research by design'? When was 'research by design' first used?
Any help or references are warmly welcome!!
With warm summer greetings from Belgium!!
Johan
