medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Hello All,
With apologies for cross-posting, the hagiography society seeks papers for a panel on "Saints and Sensibility" to be held at the International Congress on Medieval Studies at Kalamazoo, MI, May 9-12, 2013. We welcome papers that address emotions and affectivity in the cult of the saints. Topics might include the humors; affective meditation; shrines as sites for the performance of affect; liturgical rituals and festivals as education in affect; emotion in the range of hagiographic genres and allied genres. Pity, anger, fear, awe, hatred, mercy, disdain, love etc. all welcome, but also the intentional deformation or absence of affect.
Please send a 250-word abstract and completed participant form (http://www.wmich.edu/medieval/congress/submissions/index.htm) to Sara Ritchey by September 15: [log in to unmask]
Many thanks,
Sara Ritchey
