Dear Mike,
Multi-field design student learning arrangements are common in engineering
design education. It's been an area of educational program explored since
the early 1970s and there are well established literatures on both the
practice of arranging such teams for maximising learning and of educational
research in the functioning of such multi-field design learning
arrangements.
Try google " interdisciplinary engineering design student team learning" and
" interdisciplinary design student problem-based team learning"? Both give
good results.
Journal of Engineering Education is a source of research info - see for
example www.jee.org/2011/october/03.pdf
There are many other journals in this arena, e.g. the open access
'Interdisciplinary Journal of Problem-based learning' at

Best wishes,
Terence

Subject: the student learning experience of collaborating with others from
different fields
At Massey university we are about to embark on a project where our
illustration students will be collaborating and co-creating with english
literature students from another university who subject specialism is script
writing. The writers and illustrators will work collaboratively on what will
become a 'Pitch Bible'. Has anyone conducted research on design student
learning which involves working with others from different fields?
Regards
Mike
