Back to one of our current online collections projects...
Enjoy the summery scenes on Chinese and Japanese fan paintings from the
Ashmolean’s reserve collection.
To support the physical display at the Ashmolean, which has just opened, an
online version of the *Images of Summer on Chinese and Japanese Fans*
exhibition is now live, to provide a taste of the exhibition on display in
the Ashmolean's Chinese Paintings Gallery, including zoom-able
high-resolution images and detailed information about each art work, please
see:

Folding fans have long been used to keep people cool in Asia. Carried by
men as well as women, fans were important symbols of status and identity
and they were often carefully decorated with small-scale paintings or
calligraphic inscriptions.
This display of Chinese and Japanese fan prints from the Museum’s reserve
collections includes a selection of fans designed for the hot summer months.
The exhibition is on display in the Museum until *7th October 2012*. After
the physical display of all this exhibitions ends, the web-based version of
the exhibition will remain online indefinitely, as an archived resource
that can continue to be explored.
Please circulate widely!
regards
Paul
