.
In theory you present a very frightening scenario, especially for those
with "delete key" phobia. Nevertheless, in my experience of running a
number of discussion groups and being on many many more, it is not the
case that journal publishers or fans of a particular journal are very
prone to share content pages of journals on discussion groups. For the
limited number that do share this content, this can be a valuable current
awareness tool for those who want an idea of what is currently being
published in their field, but are not on top of the skills needed to
create their own current awareness techniques. It certainly is a much
more helpful type of information than the flood of conference
announcements that are on so many lists and that most list members lack
the funds and time to attend. As the "fortunate?" user of a corporate
Gmail account, I delete over 3000 email messages a week three times
(Inbox, Allmail and Trash). Speaking of Google, it may be useful for some
on this list to know that in Google Scholar, there is a new hiding place
for "Advanced Search". It is the down arrow at the right of the search
dialog box, and that icon will also hide your typing of searches if the
search statement is longer than the search dialog box, so one can type
these search statements elsewhere and copy and paste them into Google
Scholar, such as on a Word document.
.
Everyone have a great weekend.
.
Sincerely,
David Dillard

If all the professions represented on this mailing list posted content pages from their professional journals then we would be inundated with journal content pages and we would lose the useful and relevant discussions that we have because people would be too busy going through all the content pages. I personally think that we should browse our own professional journals and then use the mailing list to share and highlight articles that engage all the different disciplines.

I permit the posting of these on my lists as well. Many academic lists that I am on also have no problem with these postings. They provide a sense of what is being published in the field at a point in time.
