medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
As no-one else seems to have bothered to do so, I shall answer my own
question! No, there doesn't seem to be a published modern language
edition of the text of The N-Town Plays, but there is an excellent TEAMS
Middle English Texts Series edition (ed. Douglas Sugano, 2007) which is
lightly modernised (yogh, thorn, eth etc) and much more accessible than
the EETS edition. Similarly, they have also produced an edition of The
York Corpus Christi Plays (ed. Clifford Davidson, 2011). There is an
excellent translation of The Chester Mystery Cycle (David Mills, 1992)
and a not-entirely-satisfactory one of The Wakefield [Towneley] Mystery
Plays (Martial Rose, 1961).
(I am becoming quite a fan of the METS - and this despite having had to
sit through a Lydgate Mumming at Harlaxton last week!)
