The Observatoire des Sciences de l’Univers (OSUG) of Grenoble University, together with ETH Zürich and Università Milano-Bicocca is organising a 12-day field trip across the Western Alps from 10-22 September 2012. The field course is open for participation by Masters and PhD students from other institutes worldwide.
This field trip is designed to offer a high-level course in field geology, enabling students to improve their skills in data acquisition in the field, while learning about current research issues in Alpine geology and confronting different viewpoints on this topical mountain belt. Each day an internationally recognised specialist of the area considered will act as the field trip leader, allowing different points of view on the mountain belt to be considered and placed in the context of western Alpine orogenic evolution.
The courses will be in English and will allow validating credits (6 ECTS) for a Masters or PhD study programme (subject to approval of your home institution).
Deadline for applications will be August 10. To apply, send a short cover letter and a one-page CV to [log in to unmask]
Total fee for the field course is € 500,- and includes transport (starting and ending in Grenoble), accommodation and dinner (except the first/last days in Grenoble, i.e. September 10 and 21) and field guide. Fees do not include transport to and from Grenoble and lunches, which will be on your own charge. We may have funds available to sponsor students from less-developed countries.
