In West Dunbartonshire we've done much the same as this - a set of ebook readers for reading groups to use and borrow, with individual ebook readers and android tablets in each library for demonstration, training and promotional purposes only.
We hope to consider extending the loan of the ebook readers to housebound customers in future, after our ebook service has been fully implemented.
Regards,
Richard.

Hi Hazel
Could you please send the following reply:
Dudley Libraries have purchased a quantity of e-readers with a view to
using them to promote their forthcoming e-book service. Members of
reading groups will be allowed to borrow the e-book readers and report
back on e-books and reading in this format at their group meetings. They
will also help library staff to promote the e-book service to the wider
public.
Home library service customers will also have the chance to borrow
e-readers. Thanks Lynda

Is there anybody who has made the decision to purchase and lend
e-readers as opposed to e-books in their libraries?
If so, I wonder if you would be willing to share your experiences. I
will summarise for the list,
Sue
