Digital Fluency
Thursday 14th June
1.30pm - 4.30pm
Use of the internet has become synonymous with pupil's research for coursework, class projects and homework, but are they making the best use of the tools at their disposal? This course follows on from the Truth, Lies and the Internet Demos report (Sept 2011) and session held here in March 2012 with the authors.  We will showcase a series of sessions on digital fluency and discuss the issues raised.  This session is ideal for those new to delivering information and digital fluency lessons.
 
The sessions cover

*	
	How to make the best use of internet search engines
*	
	Evaluating websites for accuracy and suitability of information
*	Avoiding plagiarism and breaches of copyright
*	A discussion of other electronic resources available

Creative Writing Activities Online
Wednesday 20th June
9.30am - 12.30pm
There are many opportunities to explore creative writing using online tools. This course looks at how writing needs to change for web audiences and tools that are freely available for children to use, with an eye on web safety and copyright issues.
 
Delegates will gain:

*	
	an understanding of web publishing
*	
	an understanding of some tools to use in creative writing projects - ComicLife, WriteOnline, blog pages
*	
	An awareness of reader behaviour online
*	
	Increased confidence in creating imaginative content online
*	
	An awareness of web safety and copyright issues of publishing online

Delegates will have a chance to discuss literacy ages, expectation, and responses to web-content as well as evaluate text viewed on screen and have hands-on experience of using tools for children's writing such as ComicLife, blog pages and WriteOnline

Cartoon Creativity
Wednesday 20th June
1.30pm - 4.30pm
Creative writing can take many forms and different formats appeal to different children. This workshop looks at using cartoon or comic-strip techniques and software to encourage creative writing with children.
Delegates will learn:

*	
	How Comic Life can be used to create stories
*	
	Visual literacy concepts and how good graphics management to can help to achieve good results when working with children
*	
	How to edit pictures, add text create personalised and punchy stories using Comic Life basic concept of comic conventions in print
*	
	Recommendations for free packages available such as Scratch, ToonDoo and Stripgenerator and the value of paid-for web2.0 packages
*	
	The power of comics as campaigning, advertising and personal issue discussion tools

Publish your own E-book
Wednesday 27th June
1.30pm - 4.30pm
From reading eBooks, an exciting new possibility is to create your own. This course will look at 

*	
	the software, ebook formats and processes needed to create an eBook
*	
	the process of transferring an eBook to a portable device from a computer
*	
	Selling your book on the Amazon marketplace

Delegates will also be shown how to acquire open source or free software needed to create an eBook and during the morning, gain practical experience by creating a eBook themselves from an existing text document and transfer it to an eBook reader.
