Engaging with Library users: New and innovative approaches
ALISS AGM June 11th 2012
British Library
12.30-4.30pm
This year the AGM of ALISS (Association of Librarians and Information Professionals in the Social Sciences) will take the theme of engaging with library users. It will focus on three aspects: the use of new technology to interact with students; the creation of social spaces within libraries and the changing nature of reference/ enquiry work. Speakers will include:
- Angela Joyce, University of Bristol, on the use of social media, as well as more traditional methods, to engage with international students.
- Thomas Butler, Head of Libraries and Learning Resources, Croydon College on the replacement of traditional issue desks with self-service and roving help.
- Helen Webb, Research Support Supervisor, University of Sussex on the creation of the Research Hive as a social space for researchers in the library.
The speakers will share their experiences and there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion.
The event will also showcase the new Social Welfare at the BL portal.
The afternoon will begin with a buffet lunch from 12.30-1.15, followed by the AGM and then the main presentations. It will end at approximately 4.30pm.
Note that due to security arrangements at the British Library participants must confirm attendance in advance
This event is free to all ALISS members.
