Friends,
There has been a long tradition on this list that the unique audience of more than 2,000 research active subscribers makes this a suitable place for research requests, conference calls, calls for contributions to books and projects, announcements of significant design research publications and the like. In that context, I thought Matthew Caygil's request was fine, especially given the fact that Matthew offered to share the results of his research.
That said, Mark Evans has a point: it would help to know more about the reason for a request. Having answered Matthew's questions on-line, I realized that this survey very specifically involves the UK rail network -- it is not possible for others to answer some questions, while some context would help for those of us outside the UK to know why Matthew and his colleagues want answers from places like Australia, Canada, India, Sweden, and the other several dozen nations where we live and work. Circumstances, conditions, and rail travel differ greatly among our nations.
My guess is that list members are happy to help on requests such as this -- good information for a request helps, and it generally increases the response rate.
Best regards,
Ken
