VACANCY: EDITOR OF *JOURNAL OF THE RMA*
The Royal Musical Association seeks to appoint an Editor of the *Journal of the Royal Musical Association* to succeed Professor Rachel Cowgill, who has served since 2007. *JRMA* is published by Routledge (Taylor & Francis), who work closely with the Editor throughout the production process.
The Editor is responsible for selecting and preparing academic content of the highest quality for publication in the *Journal* and is the key figure in the publication process. She or he must agree and establish a mission for the *Journal*, and then pursue that mission through seeking, commissioning, and developing articles and other features of the highest quality of content and form, and ensuring these articles and features are delivered to the Publisher in good order and to agreed deadlines.
The Editor will need to demonstrate vision, leadership, creativity, sound planning skills (including a keen eye for emerging directions in musicological scholarship), strong management skills (liaising with authors, the editorial team, robust quality assurance in relation to manuscripts, and the production of each issue), along with good communication skills.
The Editor reports to and is a member of the Editorial Board of the *Journal* and the Publications Committee of the RMA, and is entitled to attend meetings of the RMA Council. The Editor is expected to be a member of the RMA during their tenure (though not necessarily at the time of application).
The Editorship is normally a three-year appointment. The honorarium for the Editor of *JRMA* is £2,200 p.a. for 2012; the rate for 2013 will be reviewed by Finance and Membership Committee later this year, but it may be expected to increase in line with the then prevailing rate of inflation.
A detailed job specification is available on request from the Executive Officer, Jeffrey Dean [log in to unmask], who welcomes expressions of interest. Formal applications, including a letter outlining the applicant's ambitions for the *Journal* as well as levels of experience and expertise, a curriculum vitae, and the names and contact details of two referees, may be made by 31 August 2012, either by post or by e-mail (attachments in .doc or .pdf format), to the Executive Officer (contact details below). Interviews will be held in London on 14 September 2012.
Dr Jeffrey Dean Executive Officer, Royal Musical Association. 4, Chandos Road, Chorlton-cum-Hardy, MANCHESTER M21 0ST
