medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

that's what i thought --my being severely Liturgically Challenged
notwithstanding.

from Cicilia's original post:
"I am reading Raymond of Aguiliers, who tells me that, upon capturing
Jerusalem (on July 15), that 'in hac die cantavimus officium de Resurrectione,
quia in hac die ille qui sua virtute a mortuis resurrexit, per gratiam suam
nos resuscitavit.'"
which i interpret to mean that all this cantavating by Ray and his gang was
done in celebration of the capture of J., on the same day as that capture.
and therefore it was not a question of something which happened on the
special, "additional Solemn Commemoration of the Resurrection" in J., which
Paul places "on the last Sunday of the year (i.e., the Sunday before
Advent)".
otOh, Paul (following Dondi, i assume) says that "the usage that they develop
there after 1099 has a commemoration of the Resurrection every day through the
year" --which might mean that the 15 July cantavating that Ray
witnessed/participated in (?) was *the first* one of those, inaugurated on the
occasion of the successful capture of the city and continued every Sunday
thereafter, with a special, De Lux celebration, with additional Bells &
Whistles, held during Advent.
?
if that was indeed the case, being of Small Mind, i wonder why it was the
Resurrection that they chose to be the event that they celebrated, rather
than, say, The Entry into Jerusalem --because that slot was taken by the Palm
Sunday service??
btw, in my on-going confusion, "the last Sunday of the year" would only be
"the Sunday before Advent" in those [very, very few?] locales which ran on a
calender which started the year on Christmas day. most places started their
year on Easter, i believe.
but, what do i know?

it obviously is not the "Solemn" one which is in December, right?
