medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I come late to this discussion, but can contribute
a stone sculpture of St. Michael wielding a sword in his fight with a
demon that he has chained and tramples, c.1500

a fresco by Spinello Aretino (1350-1410) with Michael wielding a sword
as he tramples the 7-headed dragon (of which he has lopped off 3) while
he leads a host of armed angels (Fall of the Rebel Angels)
http://www.kornbluthphoto.com/Angels2 (end of row 2)
and an anonymous angel (possibly Michael?), marble relief sculpture,
Byzantine 9th-10th c.

Michael with cross and with globus cruciger)

I am far more familiar with images of him fighting the devil in the form of a serpent, with a lance/spear as his weapon. My questions for the list is whether those of you familiar with the iconography can provide information about either pictures or texts which depict him:

> 2) leading an angelic host, whether on horseback or on foot
