Many thanks to all those who responded to my e-mail earlier this week
concerning decreasing usage statistics. It's clear that there are many
factors as to why statistics might be dropping, and also that there are
a number of ways to address the issues.
One thing I have noticed looking at our own statistics is that it seems
to be the abstracting and indexing databases that have seen an increase,
rather than full-text databases. I find this really quite interesting,
given that where we do come in for criticism in surveys, the comments
always seem to say that we do not have access to enough electronic
journals! I have been wondering if it might be the case that indexing
databases seem sometimes to be 'easier' to get into, but that's purely
my own suspicion.
Thanks again.
Best wishes,
Sarah
