Date: August 7-10, 2012
Place: The New York Academy of Medicine, 1216 Fifth Avenue (at 103rd Street), NYC 10029

With the recent Institute of Medicine reports on guidelines and systematic reviews, there is increasing need to use rigorous processes to ensure that health care recommendations are informed by the best available research evidence. This demands a systematic and transparent approach.
The 3-day workshop will offer participants hands on training in the use of the GRADE system.
Participants will learn and practice the use of GRADE to:
1. Formulate guideline questions
2. Identify patient important outcomes
3. Follow the GRADE approach to evaluate the quality of the evidence
4. Use GRADE and GRADEpro (software) to create Evidence Profiles
5. Use the GRADE approach to move from evidence to strong or weak recommendations
Participants will also learn about ideal vs pragmatic approaches to the GRADE methodology.
This workshop is open to individuals in settings requiring formulation of health care recommendations for national, regional or local use. It is strongly recommended that GRADE group participants be familiar with basic principles of critical appraisal of clinical studies conforming to commonly encountered designs, and with appraisal and interpretation of systematic reviews.
