The employer does not have to accept such a sick note. The following are
pertinent points:
1. Med certs are advisory and link to SSP (see below) indicating to the
employee that they should refrain from work due to a particular medical
condition.
2. Unless the rules on SSP have changed and employee is only eligible for
statutory sick pay if that person was taken ill within the EU. It would be
worth checking but to my mind if the person is not eligible to SSP then they
would not be eligible for company sick pay either.
