Dear Mailbase,
In Derby, we are considering reporting a calculated free testosterone (cFT) result in males (using the formula of Vermeulen, 1971), to replace the free androgen index (FAI) currently in use. This is expected to aid in identifying hypogonadal males.
We were wondering how many other labs currently report a calculated free testosterone and if this had dramatically changed the number of patients undergoing further investigation for hypogonadism. Additionally, we would like to know how these labs report female testosterone results (Is the FAI still used with female results and the cFT used in males? Are female testosterone results reported with a cFT?)
Thanks for your help
